FC Naples made their highly anticipated home debut against the Chattanooga Red Wolves on March 8th, marking the debut of Southwest Florida’s first professional soccer team to represent the Naples community in the USL League One. An impressive audience of over 4,000 spectators gathered at the complex to witness FC Naples compete in their inaugural match.
The first half was characterized by a subtle start from FC Naples, gradually building momentum leading to three attempts on goal. However, despite the intense efforts from both sides, the first half concluded with a 0-0 draw. Undeterred, our local supporters remained engaged, rallying behind our players with unwavering optimism.
It was this spirit that fired up the FC Naples team and despite facing a 1-0 disadvantage early in the second half, they retaliated against the Red Wolves with unwavering determination. Successfully controlling the ball majority of the second half, FC Naples was awarded a penalty kick at the 77th minute. Andres Ferrin confidently took the initiative and secured the first goal in FC Naples history, brushing past the Red Wolves goalkeeper.
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric, with palpable excitement driving the team into the final stretch of the game. Despite additional attempts at goal and an intense 8 minutes of extra time, the final score settled at 1-1, culminating in a draw between FC Naples and Chattanooga Red Wolves. FC Naples inaugural match may not have resulted in victory, but it successfully showcased our team’s resilience and spirit, and fans can expect a team that loves to compete game in and game out this season.
